Snow Removal and Ice Control
The RM of Hanover has created a Snow Removal Policy to ensure there is a standard for level of snow removal as to maintain an acceptable level of service and safety within the municipality. Our crews tackle nearly 500 miles of our rural road network, which is in addition to our 5 urban centers’ streets.
Our fleet consists of 5 motor graders, 2 plow trucks and 1 sanding truck. We encourage our ratepayers to check out our entire Municipal Snow Removal policy No. WOR-004 (click the link or find it below) to understand our Public Works Staff’s marching orders once snow starts accumulating.
Here’s a quick summary:
Each year, Council establishes the standards and priorities for snow clearing operations throughout the municipality. Snow removal activities begin once snowfall has ended and visibility conditions allow for the safe deployment of equipment.
Priority 1 is maintaining access within urban communities and clearing RD 32N Ridge Road. Once these routes have been addressed, crews move on to Priority 2, which includes rural grid roads, followed by Priority 3, rural developments.
Within each Local Urban District, street-clearing priorities are determined by the respective elected officials to best meet the needs of their community.
